Light up the Podium : A LIFF Initiative

Empowering Black girls (12–24) through art, music, poetry and performance to confront racism and build belonging.

About the initiative

Light up the Podium is an LIFF arts-based initiative that empowers young Black girls through creative expression, mentorship, community-building, and public performances to challenge racism and strengthen wellbeing.

Light up the Podium uses art, music, poetry and performance to create safe, creative spaces for Black girls aged 12–24. The initiative amplifies youth voices, builds leadership and emotional wellness, and connects participants with mentors, artists, and community resources. It is supported by the Multiculturalism & Antiracism Grant Program, Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA), and the Government of Alberta.
